Custom Fireplace Surrounds
in Asheville, NC
Stone surrounds, hearths, mantels and full-height feature walls—planned around your fireplace and fabricated in our Fletcher shop.
What Makes a Custom Stone Fireplace
So Memorable?
A fireplace already draws the eye. Large-format stone gives it the color, movement and scale to become part of the room’s architecture rather than an applied decoration.
Reflections can coordinate the face, returns, hearth, mantel and adjacent stonework as one composition. Slab movement is positioned around the opening, joints are planned deliberately, and exposed edges are finished to suit the design.
We fabricate and install the stone components. The builder and fireplace professional establish the approved firebox, framing, venting, noncombustible substrate and required clearances; we coordinate with them so the stone is measured and installed at the correct stage.

Questions
Can you fabricate the surround, hearth and mantel together?
Yes. Those components can be designed from one material or a coordinated combination, with slab movement, edge profiles and exposed returns planned as one composition.
Do you work around both gas and wood-burning fireplaces?
Stonework can be planned for either type when the fireplace assembly, noncombustible substrate and required clearances have been established by the fireplace professional, builder and applicable manufacturer instructions.
Can a television be installed above the stone fireplace?
That decision depends on the fireplace manufacturer’s clearances, heat management system, mantel or projection details and the television manufacturer’s requirements. It should be resolved by the builder and fireplace professional before we measure the stone.
Can onyx be backlit around a fireplace?
Potentially, yes. A successful backlit feature requires early planning for the support system, ventilation, service access, lighting layout and electrical work. We coordinate the stone portion with the project team.
Does Reflections install the fireplace or venting?
No. Reflections fabricates and installs the stone components. The appropriate licensed or specialized trades provide the firebox, gas or electrical connections, venting, framing and code-required assembly.
When should Reflections become involved?
Early in design is best. Early coordination gives the project team time to align the opening, substrate, hearth dimensions, clearances, slab layout and installation sequence before finishes are locked in.
