Soapstone is a dense, talc-rich metamorphic stone with a smooth, almost silky feel. Architectural soapstone is selected for greater durability and has been trusted for generations in kitchens, fireplaces, sinks and laboratory worktops.
Unlike many natural stones, soapstone is essentially nonporous. It does not need a penetrating sealer, resists staining and is highly resistant to heat and household acids. Hot cookware, lemon juice and wine are far less concerning on soapstone than on many other surfaces.

Does soapstone need to be sealed?
No. Architectural soapstone is essentially nonporous and does not require a penetrating sealer. Some homeowners apply mineral oil or a soapstone wax to darken the color and even out the developing patina, but that treatment is cosmetic rather than protective.
Will soapstone countertops scratch?

Can you place a hot pan on soapstone?
