About ECO by Cosentino
A major part of living a green lifestyle in incorporating sustainable products into the design of your home. The beauty of stone is always an enhancer where ever used. ECO by Cosentino achieves the beauty of stone using recycled materials. These materials would otherwise end up in a landfill.
The content used comes from post-consumer, as well as post-industrial products. These countertops are made from 75% recycled material. The material can be harvested from landfills that have reached the end of their lifecycle. Items like glass, mosaics, porcelain, and mirrors are put into the production of countertops for Green Building projects.
These materials are crushed and bound with an environmentally friendly resin. The resin is, in part, made from corn oil. The production process is similar to other quartz countertop manufacturing. The result is beautiful eco-friendly long lasting countertops.
To produce this beautiful product the company is using 60 million glass bottles a year. They are reclaiming about 2 million square feet of ceramics. These are materials that would sit in a landfill forever. The cycle of your countertop will have a unique story.
The Environmentally Friendly Countertop
Natural does not necessarily mean that is environmentally friendly. Natural requires mining. A lot of times stone extraction also requires the removal of a forest to get the stone out. Instead of expending energy in moving a mountain, ECO by Cosentino is taking materials from landfills and giving them new life.
ECO by Cosentino has been awarded the Cradle to Cradle Certification. It means that they are in touch with the product from the manufacturing standpoint, all the way to the end of its lifecycle. They are utilizing recycled materials in the manufacturing process, and once the consumer is done with the product the company will pick up the product and reclaim it into their manufacturing process again.
The company is Green Belt Certified. This means that they do not emit any toxins during the manufacturing process.
All the surfaces in the line carry the NSF label making it a safe surface for food preparation.
